Those on my father's side: Asa White and Clara Keep, from Munson, Massa- chusetts; those on my mother's side, Andrew Dickson, from Middlefield, Massachusetts, and Ruth Hall from Guilford, Connecticut. They were all of ``good stock.
"History of the Warfare of Science", by Andrew Dickson White. Andrew Dickson White was a diplomat, historian and educator, who was the co-founder of Cornell University (1832-1918).
The final result was the two-volume History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom (1896) which became an extremely influential text on the relationship between religion and science.
White expanded on this idea in a book titled The Warfare of Science that same year. He traces the growing separation of science from theology in numerous domains in these books.
